  • Carter Prize (to the runner who complains the most)

The three mile course highlights the wetness and hilliness of the Severance wilderness. The trails are wide and open; however, the footing ranges from hard packed gravel to logging roads to rocky, ankle-twisting ground. Sections of it are always wet (some are very wet) and the course may be be snow covered, so caution is advised. (Snowshoe entrants are always welcome.)

The weather has proved unpredictable: one year providing a sunny, 55°F day for the start and another year offering cold, wind, and snow. Water will be available at the finish, and a fire going as needed.

Thanksgiving is a big hunting day and the race course runs into the woods well away from roads and areas. Wearing red, orange, or other "don't shoot me" colors is required.

A course map map be viewed here.
